Industrial Furnace Insulation Materials

FiberForm® is a low density, rigid, carbon fiber insulation material designed to perform at high temperatures, in vacuum and inert furnaces.  FiberForm can be supplied with a variety of coatings (described below), including TC-2™ graphite reflective paint for applications requiring a greater resistance to physical or chemical attack.  Horizontal fiber orientation of this FiberForm insulation results in excellent through-the-thickness thermal insulation properties.  Additionally, this high quality product has an increased resistance to chemical deterioration and moisture absorbance.  FiberForm is supplied in board, cylinder and disc form.

FMI® offers carbon and graphite felts in a variety of widths and thicknesses to meet a wide range of applications.  These products are easy to cut and install.  The felts can be sewn in place using FMI's carbon cordage.  Felt material is generally used as thermal insulation in inert and vacuum furnaces.  For special applications, this felt is available with graphite foil and/or graphitic coatings, which will reduce the permeability of the felt and improve its resistance to erosion.

FMI supplies quality accessories for its high temperature insulation products.  FMI Braided Carbon Cordage is used to sew/attach felt.  FMI TC-2™ Coating and Graphite Foil is bonded on FiberForm or felt to eliminate dusting/abrasion while also providing an impervious and reflective surface.  Coatings can be custom designed and developed to meet individual customer requirements.  FMI also produces FiberForm Cement to provide a high temperature bond to FiberForm, Carbon and Graphite Felt insulation materials.  FMI HHN™ Adhesive is used to form carbon or graphite bonds.

Graphite Fabric  is used to wrap parts for heat treating and line tooling trays to prevent etching.  Graphite fabric has a maximum operating temperature of 3000oC, is a plain weave that is flexible, handles easily and is used in applications that require chemical resistance and attack by molten metals and acids.

Commercial Carbon Composites(C).  This high strength material is a two-directional fiber reinforced composite designed to meet stringent structural and high temperature applications.  Weave construction results in a superior insulating material with excellent through-the-thickness thermal properties.  Commercial Carbon Composites incorporate all the inherent properties of graphite, with lower density, superior mechanical properties and high resistance to fracture.  FMI also offers 3-D/N-D reinforced Carbon/Carbon Composites for commercial applications requiring through-the-thickness fiber strength.

FMI also manufactures FILCARB, a high strength, carbon/carbon composite mold which is manufactured using the filament winding technique.  FILCARB pistons manufactured from carbon or graphite cloth provide excellent through-the-thickness thermal insulation and high temperature mechanical properties.  When used with FILCARB molds, this combination provides a hot-pressing system superior in performance and cycle life when compared to graphite molds.  Molds are custom manufactured to meet the temperature and pressurization requirements of the customer.
