Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMC)
Fiber Materials, Inc. has been involved in the development of 2-D
and 3-D fiber reinforced ceramic matrix composites for more than 30
years. This class of materials satisfies the need for
improved oxidation and erosion resistance. FMI's expertise in multi-directional preform
fabrication has been used effectively in the fabrication of SiC/SiC
and C/SiC and oxide/SiC developmental materials
for various high temperature applications. In addition, FMI® has
commercially produced SiO2/SiO2 composites for use
as missile antenna windows where ablation resistance and RF transmissions
are critical. FMI has supplied woven and non-woven preforms and
partially densified C/C preforms for composite studies by
others, and conducts contracted research in these areas for the U.S.
Government as well as commercial and aerospace industries.
