Fiber Materials, Inc. hot pressing molds are reinforced with carbon fiber using the filament
winding technique in order to take advantage of the extremely high hoop
strength. The flat carbon cloth lay-up used in forming the carbon/carbon pistons offers extremely high compressive strength.
FMI's hot pressing dies come with a protective graphitic sleeve. This sleeve allows for
the protection of the inside diameter of the mold from reaction with the pressed powder and from scoring.
