Quartz & Carbon Phenolic Heatshields
Fiber Materials, Inc. has been involved with the design and manufacturing of
heatshield materials for over 30 years. During this time, numerous research and
development efforts and production programs have been demonstrated for a
variety of aerospace and defense applications. Composite
heatshields have been provided as part of the thermal protection system
for severe aerodynamic environments. FMI® has demonstrated a number of
reinforcement construction capabilities that include 2-D, 3-D and
braided structures. Process parameters that exhibit specific pressure and
temperature required for heatshield molding operations have also been demonstrated.
Quartz and/or Carbon Phenolic composites are used as heatshields on strategic missile systems and heatshields/shrouds in TMD/NMD systems. For more information, refer to the section on Thermal Protection Systems.
